Purchased as a puppy by Karen, Gunner displayed symptoms of Hypothyroidism at an early age but was consistently diagnosed with other ailments and allergies so didn’t receive the proper treatment for his disease for a very long time.
During the first three years of his life, Gunner was an amazing dog who stole the hearts of many and quickly became a Canadian Champion as well as achieved high awards in Rally but also was haunted by the disease. While Gunner was loyal, loving, intelligent and even a comedian, he also displayed unforeseen bouts of aggression which nearly led to Karen having Gunner euthanized.
This book shows the humor, the life, the love, the trials and the ups and downs of Karen and Gunner's journey as they work together in the show ring as a team as well in their private lives. Karen also describes in detail her painful struggle to keep harmony in her home with Gunner and the rest of the pack; Vegas, Taxi, Blaze and eventually Liar.
Through Gunner, Karen learns the most important lesson of all, to never give up!
After finding Karen's true love, Tim works with her and accepts Gunner for who he is and learns to live well with her and the rest of the pack. Together, Karen and Tim realize Gunner is truly both of their "Heart Dog".
